About IASNAThe International Association for the Study of the Nude in Art (IASNA) is an international association of artists, art collectors and art enthusiasts who are passionate about the exploration and study of the nude form in art. We hope to advance the understanding of this subject matter as it relates to matters of art history as well as serve as a forum for art criticism within this genre. It is not our intention to exhaustively cover every rendition of the nude in art as any attempt of doing so is neither possible or desirable. Instead, we hope to establish the highest standards in the depiction of nude by focusing on and calling attention to work we feel has high artistic and/or historic merit. Goals and Objectives of IASNA:
As IASNA gains support and grows, it will become our objective to encourage participation and support of artists through competitions, scholarships and fellowships. About the Art & The Nude™ JournalArt & The Nude™ is our semi-annual journal that seeks to provide a technical and illustrated resource for artists, collectors and art enthusiasts. By featuring the work of current artists from around the globe, as well as examples by great master artists, we hope to inspire the development and understanding of the nude study. Art & The Nude™ is focused towards the interests of artists, art collectors and art enthusiasts.
Each issue will provide a number of inspiring works of art as well as articles that explore the creative process taken by artists. Subjects for articles will range from sources of inspiration to technique. We will review and cover equipment, tools or media used by artists to provide basic insight as to how each medium or piece of equipment lends itself to the creative process. We hope that by highlighting the work and visions of talented artists, we will encourage the study and exploration of this simple yet timeless form. In addition to the work itself, we seek to bring together the ideas and visions of these artists to inspire others. For more information regarding our semi-annual journal, please see the Art & The Nude™ page. Why study the nude? The human nude has been the subject of study for a countless number of artists. The nude form has served as a subject for those wishing to sharpen their knowledge of their chosen media as well as for those who have purposefully chosen the nude to sharpen their perspective of the nude form itself. Although we hope to cover both, it is the latter that has inspired this publication. It takes much more than mild interest to devote so much effort to a single subject matter. It takes intense curiosity. We feel it is a necessity to study the depiction of the nude in art because, like all art, the representation of the nude in art can reveal sociocultural concepts and interests and in certain examples shed light into current ideas on aesthetics. By devoting so much time and passion into the study of one subject, it encourages us to look at that subject differently. It forces us to rethink the creative process. It mandates that we reevaluate how we feel about that form. We look forward to the development of the nude in the artwork of today's artists as well as in those of tomorrow. |
